Shorrock Superchargers
Carl writes about these neat blowers:
Shorrock superchargers powered various land speed record MG’s and Healey’s
Originally Centric Superchargers they became Shorrock Superchargers in 1946
Over the years they produced many supercharger kits generally for small European cars and could often be seen on Drag bikes in the UK well into the 1970′s. Most of the kits in the 1950′s and 60′s were designed with a reliable 30% power increase.
1959
848cc (52 cubic inches) Mini launched as Morris Mini Minor and Austin Seven.
(Export as Morris 850 and Austin 850 until 1962 … also, Austin Seven becomes Austin Mini)
1960
Allard Motor Company (a Shorrock distributor) started selling a kit for the 850 Mini.
I’ve have had a many of these superchargers for the Mini, Austin Healey Sprite, Morris Minor and various other small British cars over the years.
The Shorrock is a rotary vane type supercharger, similar to the Judson which has sliding vanes, except the Shorrock’s vanes are attached to bearings running on a central shaft.
They also produced a VW Beetle kit (If you are interested, I think you will find Shorrock VW kits shown on the Judson register website).
Thank you Carl for the information!
